It was a beautiful weekend here in Pennsylvania!
Friday after work I knocked out the below leg and shoulder workout.
I am trying to incorporate a little more weight into my workouts. I have not lifted much this past year at all….and 10 pound dumbbells felt heavy! Hard to believe I used to squat my body weight in college!
Saturday morning I went to a fundraiser bootcamp put on by Totally Fit Bootcamp to benefit Jenny’s Kuali Authentic Malaysian cuisine restaurant in Bethlehem. A propane tank blew up at the Bethlehem Vegfest a few weeks ago and caused burns to the family (they are ok!)
It was nice to attend a bootcamp and not teach it for once! We did push ups, step ups, dips, incline push ups, burpies, jumps on the curb, Heismans, and planks. They raised over $600 for Jenny’s restaurant.
Saturday afternoon was spent in a meeting and doing research on sales and marketing for a fitness facility. I got the wonderful opportunity to meet with a local fitness studio owner the other week and am going to help promote the studio and programs. The goal is to get a marketing program in place and spread the word these next few month to really promote the gym and build up for a big New Year (the busiest time in the gym business)!
I have worked in the gym business doing sales (among other things) many times in my life, probably too many times for my liking! I actually wrote a post a while back about How to Buy a Gym Membership that outlines the tricks of the trade I have learned. I did sales for a lot of big companies and really did not like the sales model and how they treated employees.
I have, on the other hand, always dreamed of being my own boss and having my own fitness ‘business’… whatever that may be! I wrote a post this past summer about that too! And any business owner, at least the good ones I would imagine, should know everything about every aspect of the business, and sales and marketing are a HUGE part of any business!
So while I did not really enjoy doing sales for big gyms, I did learn a lot from those experiences and am grateful for the opportunities! They say sometimes you learn the most from bosses and companies that were unsuccessful because you learn what NOT to do!
I love reading, learning, and brainstorming ideas for marketing the gym business. I always have a million ideas rolling around in my head, so I am excited to put some of that brilliance (just kidding) into use and try to help promote this awesome studio! It is so much easier to sell something you truly believes has a great value.
IDEA Fitness Journal has sooo many useful and informative article in it! I definitely recommend it to fitness professionals.
I created flyers and brochures, jotted down lists, drafted proposals, and searched the internet for ideas. I have a big task ahead of me, seeing as how I am the only one in the ‘sales and marketing’ department, so lists are key!
Below is a sample of the list I made of Fitness Outreach opportunities that can (hopefully) generate extra revenue and awareness in my area:
Kids Sports Teams – and the moms!
Speak at local organizations
Team up with local healthcare providers (chiropractors, acupuncture, nutritionists, etc)
Local healthy restaurants/ stores
Offer educational workshops/ seminars
Write an article in a local wellness publication
Health Fairs/ Farmers Markets
Chamber of Commerce
Create online workout subscriptions
There are so many opportunities, so much to learn, and so much one can do in this field to help people get involved in a workout program and change their lives for the better! When we promote fitness, we not only promote a healthier and stronger body, but a longer and better quality of this life!
Today I went to church with my sister, and the message was to forgive your enemies. A simple but yet difficult message. Most of us were taught this as kids, but do we really do it? Especially to the people who are unkind to us?
“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” - Matthew 18:21
And now I am off to go for a run on this lovely day! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Have you ever done any sales or marketing for a fitness facility or product? I suppose a fitness blog counts!
Did you do any fun fitness-related things this weekend??
